Are You Just A Matter Or Do You Matter?

According to science, matter is any substance that has mass and occupies space. So technically, we’re all matter.

Each and every one of us are created for a purpose. God didn’t just say “let us create man”, He had a purpose in mind:

Genesis 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

That was when God first created a man, who was Adam.

Next, He created Eve, but still with a purpose:

Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Eve was to be Adam’s helper.

You and I are not different. We’re all created by God, and for a purpose.

Although we have specific purposes, there is a general purpose for our existence:

Isaiah 43:21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

We are created to praise God and display His glory, how? By living for Him and involving Him in our personal lives.

Some people today are just “living life”, not “fulfilling purpose”. They just settle at the level of being a matter, as defined by science, they do not matter to God, the world or even themselves.

What does it even mean to matter?

It means to be useful, beneficial or relevant. So these people are not useful to God, society or themselves.

How does a person who doesn’t matter to God behave?

They don’t care about the things of God, some may even doubt His existence. They are self sufficient and don’t see any need to give their lives to God. They live like they’ll live forever, forgetting that the breath of life belongs to God. They refuse to follow the laws and regulations set by God himself, to live meaningfully and fulfil purpose. Instead, they choose to live the way they want, without guidance. They want freedom to do anything they like, even though it’s utterly gross before God and heaven. They support their reasons to do evil with human philosophy which is foolishness in the sight of God. They go about speaking against God and His word, they utterly disregard His supremacy and authority.

Some of them who call themselves Christians, do not go out to publicize Christ. They don’t share God’s love with others, even when He has commanded us to “….Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15.

They refuse to completely obey God and do His will. These people are only living for themselves and not for God.

God sees them as, permit me to say, “useless”, because they do not add value to the kingdom of God. God has nothing to benefit from them; their time, talents, skills and abilities. They’re just occupying space on earth and not fulfilling  their divine purpose. When we are beneficial to God, He will also be beneficial to us. This is why a lot of people today are complaining that God doesn’t bless them. How can God bless who is not a blessing to Him? Since God doesn’t matter to them, they don’t also matter to Him.

Someone who is not relevant to the society is one who lives for him/herself. They do not care about any body – it could be as worse as not even caring for their loved ones. They work for their own bellies and do all it takes for their happiness, even if it’s at the expense of others. When these people are eventually gone from the earth, they won’t be remembered for anything good. Their demise may even be a relief to some.

Like John Wesley said, we should

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

We should think of others even as we think of ourselves, because in this is the commandment of God fulfilled, which says: “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” Matthew  22:39, and in this, we’ll still be fulfilling God’s purpose in portraying His love.

People who are not beneficial to themselves are those who don’t do anything to improve the quality of their lives. They don’t even love themselves talk less of loving others. How can one give out what he doesn’t have? They may have chronic low self esteem or be too relaxed or lazy to improve on themselves. They are the ones who allow opportunities to pass them by, putting the blame on others or situations. They never agree to take responsibility for anything or anyone. They are both unuseful to the society and to themselves. What a pity!

They do not put effort into making their lives make sense. They are complacent and unyielding to advice from concerned people. They continue in their deteriorating and character – diminishing habits, claiming the “that’s just how I am” syndrome. In short, they ‘waste their lives.”
